Learning outside the classroom

My colleague Sam Rebelsky has observed that since much of the learning that takes place at an excellent liberal-arts college occurs outside of the classroom, such a college arranges a wide variety of performances, concerts, lectures, and other presentations as occasions for learning, and supports joint faculty-student research projects. I fully endorse this observation.
