This one-hour workshop is a whirlwind introduction to the Scheme programming language, to the Chez Scheme system (compiler, interactive interface, and debugging tools), and to the use of XEmacs to create and execute Scheme programs. It is intended for experienced MathLAN user consultants -- kids: don't try this at home -- and emphasizes the operation of the software and the handling of errors rather than actual Scheme programming.

The workshop uses several WWW documents:

• Basic instructions on how to start up, interact with, and shut down Chez Scheme

• Instructions on using XEmacs to edit Scheme programs, and on running Chez Scheme in an XEmacs window

• A summary of the debugging facilities provided by Chez Scheme

• A Scheme bibliography, including links to a number of useful WWW documents
