Connections: Writing: Argument: Paragraphing

Each body paragraph of a critical paper needs to add something to the paper's argument, to provide textual evidence that supports the point of the paragraph, and to link that point to the larger argument of the paper. Those requirements might sound simple, but they are not always easy to meet. Checking each paragraph of a paper by those standards can help you see not only which paragraphs might need more work but also whether the paper's argument has not supported a clear paragraph structure. In other words, weak paragraphs generally prove to be symptoms of a weak thesis.
