Abstract: The following are some sites you might find of interest as you develop your web pages. I've tried to keep the list small, as I find that longer lists tend to be more overwhelming than useful.
Feel free to look elsewhere in my tutorials and root directory for other useful materials. I will warn you that my classes take most of my time, so I tend to update my reference materials only before a tutorial.
The best short reference to HTML is the Bare Bones Guide to HTML. It can be found at URL http://werbach.com/barebones/.
I also keep a short introduction to HTML online at URL http://www.math.grin.edu/~rebelsky/References/HTML/quick-html.html.
Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox column is perhaps the best guide to web design that I've seen. Each month, he covers a new, useful, and interesting issue. I've included a few of his columns as part of the handout for this tutorial. The URL for Alertbox is http://www.useit.com/alertbox/. useit.com, Nielsen's design site, is also quite useful.
The Unified Web Site Acessibility Guidelines describe how to build pages that are accessible to a variety of readers. They challenge designers to understand that good page design involves more than just the visual effect of the pages. They can be found at http://www.trace.wisc.edu/text/guidelns/htmlgide/htmlgide.html
