Hypertext in context

Hypertext is not just a computer-age concept. People have been segmenting and linking information for years. One example is the sets of note cards that most students use when developing papers, cards which they group, relate, and regroup as they attempt to develop a linear text from what is really a nonlinear set of information. To some, the Talmud is a hypertext document. However, the computer has changed many peoples' views perspective on hyptertext. It has permitted us to develop more interactive, more dynamic, and more powerful hypertext systems.
