Hypermedia: Some Technology, Some Implications (Fall 1999)

Reading Lectures

Described and linked by Sam Rebelsky.

Some faculty (most typically older faculty) seem to prefer to lecture, and to read their lectures aloud from prepared notes. It seems that every word is written down. For some students, this is a particularly uncreative way of teaching. It is also difficult for those in the ``channel changer'' generation to follow such lectures. However, by carefully planning and writing lectures, faculty can lecture on complex topics and develop quite sophisticated arguments that would undoubtedly be weakened by variation.
