I was born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. Newton is perhaps most famous for being the namesake of everyone's favorite fruit bar. My father, William (died 11 May 1979), was an executive at Polaroid. My mother, Freda, was a professor of psychology at Boston University. I grew up, went to college and graduate school at the University of Chicago. I taught at Dartmouth for four years and then game to Grinnell. These days, I teach computer science and play with my kids.
