In this group guided reading, students will explore a number of
technologies related to the World-Wide Web. The focus will be the
particular technologies used and developed in the Grinnell Laboratory
for Interactive Multimedia Experimentation and Resarch.
The primary purpose of this guided reading is to help students learn
a number of topics not covered in the regular computer science curriculum.
A second is to help them consider what it means to do research in computer
science.
TuTh 3:15-4:05
Expected workload: 2 hpw in class, 3-4 hpw outside of class.
Different students will have had differing amounts of preparation
for this course. All students will have taken CSC151, Fundamentals of
Computer Science I. Some will have taken many more courses. All
students are expected to be familiar with HTML, the markup language for
the World Wide Web.
The primary texts for this guided reading will be short handouts prepared
by Sam Rebelsky. We will also identify resources on the World Wide Web,
as appropriate. Many of the technologies discussed have Web sites, and
we will rely on the manuals provided on those sites.
