Welcome to our Annotation System

A quick introduction to using this system:

  1. Viewing pages

Now that you are running Ravel and and Annotation plugin, all pages you visit on the World-Wide Web will be annotatable. To view existing annotations and replies , click on one of the small colored arrows:
  2. Click on the button at the top of the page to make a new annotation.
A new window will open that asks for several things:
    • Protections for the annotation:
      • Choose public if you want anyone to be able to read it
      • Check private if only you can read it
      • Choose group if you want to designate one or more groups that can read it. If you check groups, you must also choose which individual groups have privileges for this annotation.
    • Enter a title for this annotation
    • Enter the text you want to annotate (e.g., this is where the yellow arrows will be placed on the document). You can copy (Edit->copy) the text from the main window and paste (Edit->paste) it in this box.
    • Enter your annotation, or note.
    • The annotation can contain HTML tags. If you want it to be displayed as HTML, check the box that says "Treat text as HTML".
    • Finally, click submit.

  3. Click on the button to search through all annotations and replies for this page. The search function offers three kinds of searches: After you enter the information and click submit, your results will be displayed in that same window. You can click on the arrow to view the entire annotation (and reply tree) in separate window.

Have fun using the program! Comments and questions can be sent to Sarah Luebke or Rachel Heck.
